This guy makes a ton of sense. It’s weird that he’s “disc redited” for needing to go on Fox News to get the word out. And, what he says is completely rational given the realities of the situation.
If the other networks, even for a moment, think it’s reasonable to wait 18 months for “testing and vaccines”? That’s completely nutty.
My view, for quite some time, has been that the public policy “experts” and “Test-and-Track” guys would have been right 150 days ago, but today they seem intent on skating to where the puck used to be . But, today? Get real. The genie is out of the bottle. Protect our most vulnerable, but everybody else needs to get back to work— while there is still work to get back to.

Thanks for posting. As is the case many times, the answers are a compromise in the middle, a place this country does not go to often. I t’s refreshing to hear a seemingly well-educated, well-spoken person talk rationally about the subject for more than 30-second snippet, without all the screaming and yelling.
To paraphrase
a bit from South Park:
Phase One: Emergency action. Shelter in place
Phase Two: ???
Phase Three: Vaccine and an eventual ‘ victory’
We need to come together and compromise on Phase 2, sooner than later.

I think the lock downs were necessary to keep hospitals from being over whelmed initially and give them more time to prepare. I think a gradual reduction of restrictions from now until fall is probably a good way to go about it. The people who want to go from full lock down to fully open are just as dumb as the people who want to lockdown until a vaccine is available. We need to start easing restrictions but need to do so gradually.

Right at the start of the video, I took issue with this statement:
“ If you flatten the curve, you don’t prevent deaths, you just change the dates”
False premise.
This statement falsely assumes the given healthcare system has unlimited capacity to deal with any surge of patients.
That’s not reality.
By flattening the curve, you prevent the healthcare system from getting overloaded. And THAT means everyone (in theory) who needs treatment can get it.
In places like Spain or Italy where the healthcare systems did get overloaded, there were more deaths than there would have been because some who could have been saved with treatment couldn’t get it.
Thus, more deaths will be prevented by flattening the curve.

Get out of here with your reasonable and nuanced opinion. The internet is no place for such considerations.

My sister is a nurse working in a Covid unit. Hospitals are always run on the edge of being overwhelmed in order to maximize profits. They didn’t prepare for anything. In fact, they cut nursing staff and doctors’ hours after losing the income from elective surgeries in order to continue to run at capacity.

The statement rightly assumed that hospitals are run at capacity whether or not there’s a pandemic in order to be profitable. Hospitals around the country have been cutting hours of both nurses and doctors once elective surgeries were cancelled. My sister’s hospital has been over capacity since October. Flattening the curve very much does just shift the dates of death out over a longer period of time. There’s also a theory that we were late to the game and many more people already contracted this this thing with some preliminary data to support this.

A ccording to him Swedens strategy is too risky , but moost swedes are social distancing. they’re following guidelines so authorities haven’t had to impart strict rules .
“ On the face of it little has shut down. But data suggests the vast majority of the population have taken to voluntary social distancing, which is the crux of Sweden’s strategy to slow the spread of the virus.
Usage of public transport has dropped significantly, large numbers are working from home, and most refrained from travelling over the Easter weekend. The government has also banned gatherings of more than 50 people and visits to elderly care homes.”:

I’m not surprised at all that he got discredited. Right at the start of the video I heard him say “If you flatten the curve, you don’t prevent deaths, you just change the dates”
... which is a load of bullshit.
Compare the deaths per capita data from Italy and Spain (two countries that took a more lax approach) to Australia or New Zealand (two countries that acted aggressively).
The difference is as clear as night and day. The lockdowns DO prevent deaths.

There is no path to the middle when one side starts from a position of lies, bullshit and disinformation.
